The Social Security Administration (SSA) publishes a yearly payment calendar. This page explains how the schedule works and the 2027 cost-of-living increase. For the exact date of each month, open the official 2027 schedule.
Which day you are paid

Some people are paid on the 3rd, such as people who started getting benefits before May 1997. Check the official schedule to see which group you are in.
SSI payments that come early
SSI is paid on the 1st of the month. When the 1st falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment comes earlier. January 1, 2027 is a holiday. SSA says the higher SSI payments with the new increase begin on December 31, 2026. See the SSA announcement.

The 2027 cost-of-living increase
SSA announced on October 14, 2026 that benefits rise 3.6 percent for 2027. The SSA press release says:
- The increase reaches about 76 million people who get Social Security or SSI.
- The average benefit rises by about $75 a month.
- Higher SSI payments begin on December 31, 2026.
- The maximum amount of earnings subject to Social Security tax rises to $192,300, up from $184,500.
SSA lists the new SSI federal payment standards on its SSI amounts page: $1,029 a month for an eligible individual and $1,544 a month for an eligible couple.

Common questions
When will I get my January 2027 Social Security payment?
It depends on your birth date. Birthdays on the 1st to the 10th are paid on the second Wednesday. Birthdays on the 11th to the 20th are paid on the third Wednesday. Birthdays on the 21st to the 31st are paid on the fourth Wednesday. If you also get SSI, Social Security comes on the 3rd. Check the official schedule for the exact day.
Why does my SSI payment come on December 31?
January 1 is a federal holiday. SSA says the increased SSI payments for January 2027 begin on December 31, 2026.
How big is the 2027 COLA?
It is 3.6 percent. SSA says the average benefit rises by about $75 a month.
What are the 2027 SSI payment amounts?
